home / Dream Interpretation
Well, are we growing? Yes, now the child’s weight is already more than 800 grams, and his body length is almost 33 cm. Such results were achieved largely thanks to the growth hormone that is produced in his body. Volume indicators are also increasing: the diameter of the head is now 65.1 mm, the tummy and breast are 67.4 mm and 65.8 mm.

It is interesting that the child no longer distinguishes only tastes, but also smells. And his hearing reacts to different sounds. Moreover, it turns out that he reacts to low sounds better and faster. Loud and sharp sounds make him shrink. And only the calm, pacifying state of his mother returns him to a serene state.

This week, in fact, lays the foundation for the very teeth that will grow after the milk ones. The child’s skeletal and muscular systems are already fully developed, so sometimes his movements are quite noticeable. You still need to count them to know for sure that his condition is normal.

Even those of us who consider ourselves to be incorrigible workaholics, by the 26th week are mentally ready to put aside what we are doing in order to focus on what matters most. Understanding this, colleagues try to spare you. You are more often focused on your condition and upcoming motherhood.

Your family members also understand your condition. You already find it difficult to do your usual household chores, and you need breaks more often. Your belly gets bigger every day and sometimes you feel terribly clumsy and lazy. I want to relax. Although lying down is not better. Either way, the baby is a nuisance. Movement during pregnancy is life. Time flies faster while doing things.

The fundus of the uterus has already risen by 26 cm. The pulling sensation has already become familiar, although sometimes the baby’s activity is responded to by pressure and spasms in the liver area. At this time, stagnation of bile may occur, so you should avoid fried, salted and smoked foods, so as not to aggravate the situation. When your baby is active, you may feel pressure in the lower part of your uterus. If at the same time watery discharge appears and the cervix is slightly open, as your gynecologist will inform you about, you will need to undergo treatment. Because this can cause infections to enter the uterus and membranes. In critical situations, pregnancy can be preserved surgically - by placing a suture on the cervix.

Some women have a very difficult time in the second half of pregnancy. They complain of swelling, high blood pressure and other signs of late toxicosis. These symptoms often occur when you are overweight. To avoid complications, they are asked to spend this period under medical supervision. And often this turns out to be useful.

26th week of pregnancy: vaginal discharge

At this time, the appearance of leucorrhoea requires careful examination. They can be purulent or mucous and indicate that there is an infection in the vagina. That is why, during an examination, the doctor always takes a microflora test and offers treatment that will help avoid further infection of the fetus. After all, such infections can lead to intrauterine diseases of the child.

Blood in the discharge is always a reason to seek emergency help. At this stage, this may be a symptom of the threat of premature birth. If you notice leakage of amniotic fluid, but overall feel fine, do not delay visiting your doctor.

26th week of pregnancy: nutrition for pregnant women

Probably, over the past few months, you, with all your consciousness, simply cannot stand conversations about proper nutrition. You really want to relax and eat what you love. Be it a pastry, cake or a glass of dry wine. Of course, you shouldn’t look for vitamins in confectionery products, but if a piece of cake improves your mood, don’t deny yourself the pleasure. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is even beneficial in this sense - it contains magnesium. The main thing is that these products are just a pleasant addition to your healthy diet.

26th week of pregnancy: preparing for childbirth

Yes, sometimes it is useful to take at least a short break. Even if you are used to treating any business responsibly. Then you will have the strength for a new breakthrough. Some parents at this time are keen on studying various birthing methods, including partner births. Read books about early childhood development. In a word, they are trying to prepare for the birth of the baby with all their might.
If you trust the child's dad, let him watch your baby with you, perhaps go to courses together.

The most ironic fathers will not be able to resist the opportunity to be your support during pregnancy. Again, now there is even a fashion for demonstrative fathers. Nowadays, no one is surprised when he sees a young father with a stroller or, before that, together with his wife at classes at the school of future parents. This will brighten up the wait and strengthen your relationship. And this is just as important not only for yourself, but also for the future member of your family.

By the way, it is better to sign up for the most fashionable and popular courses for future parents in advance. Because it is advisable to attend such classes for up to seven months.

Perhaps some women believe that when you are pregnant, thinking about beauty is inappropriate. But in vain. A beautiful, well-groomed mother feels much better herself, and her husband, looking at her, will not avoid joint family events. Therefore, just as you take care of yourself for your child, take care of yourself for yourself and your husband. After all, pregnancy is not a disease, there is no need to look worse. A good mood won't hurt anyone.

Ultrasound:
Now in the picture you can see the baby’s face. It turns out that by this time the baby is already trying to open his eyes. Their color has already been decided. There are eyelashes and eyebrows. His body weight reaches 970 grams, and his height is almost 40 cm. With each ultrasound examination, the doctor measures the volume of the fetal head and examines his brain. Already now all its parts, blood vessels, and the cerebellum are visible.

The 26th obstetric week is the 24th week from conception - the embryonic period of pregnancy, as well as the 26th week from the beginning of the last menstruation. You have already come a long way. There are approximately 100 days left until you meet your baby!

Dimensions of the baby at 26 weeks of pregnancy

What happens to the fetus at 26 weeks?

At this time, the baby’s muscle tissue and limbs are actively developing. This gives him the ability to push hard. The baby makes faces, thereby expressing a reaction to sweet or bitter. If you eat something sweet, after a certain time you will feel the baby actively moving. The baby, while still in the womb, begins to love sweets. This addiction to sweets indicates the rapid development of taste receptors in the baby.

The digestive system continues to develop, forming meconium during its work. An active lifestyle requires replenishment of lost nutrients. The constant development of the brain increases the number of neurons that connect the central nervous system. At the 26th week of development, the formation of the baby’s eyes ends, so he can open and close them with ease. The fetal lungs, previously freely located in the chest, this week take their place to the right of the heart and to the left of the liver, and are separated from the lower abdomen by the diaphragm. They take the shape of a triangular pyramid, the top of which faces the neck.

The baby constantly listens - to the mother’s heartbeats, her voice, even bowel sounds. Long after giving birth, the child will fall asleep to the beating of his mother’s heart, since for him this sound is associated with comfort and peace.

What does a baby look like at 26 weeks of pregnancy?

This week, your baby’s facial features are already clearly visible. They acquired uniqueness and individuality. Mostly lies head down, although its position can change many times.

The baby's face still looks a little like an old man's, due to the abundance of wrinkles. The layer of adipose tissue already has several layers, but the main part of it is formed in the late stages of pregnancy. The disappearing folds in the skin made the baby’s body look thin at first glance, but after a few weeks of intensive nutritional intake, everything will change. The main weight gain in the fetus will occur almost before birth.

Ear cartilages are formed. The baby’s ears are no longer adjacent to the skull, but are slightly protruding. As you know, the shape of the auricle is as unique as fingerprints. Your baby becomes an individual, although for you he has long been the most special in the world.

The toenails continue to grow, as do the hairs; by the time labor begins, they will reach a length of six millimeters.

Your baby is the size of... a papaya. Weighing 850–950 grams, height 330–350 mm, heartbeat 120–160 beats/min.

Baby development at 26 weeks of pregnancy

  • Mostly lies head down, although its position can change many times.

  • The baby gains weight primarily through muscle development and fat deposition.

  • The child is already able to see and lives in the world of sensations. His developed vision allows him to see only blurry colored spots.

  • The taste of amniotic fluid, which the baby already feels, directly depends on the food his mother eats.

  • The baby gets used to the mother's heartbeat. That is why, after his birth, the baby immediately calms down, you just have to press him to your chest.

  • The baby remembers sounds - the voices of his mother and relatives, music. If you sing lullabies to your baby now, then after giving birth he will quickly fall asleep to them.

  • The development of the baby's lungs continues - he is already preparing for his first breath, swallowing amniotic fluid. The lungs take the shape of a triangle and are positioned with the apex up.

  • Heart rhythm is from 120 to 160 beats per minute.

  • A very important achievement of this week is the production of the fetus’s own growth hormone by the pituitary gland.

  • Connections are established between the brain and the adrenal cortex - hormonal levels are formed.

  • The formation of permanent teeth occurs, which remain deep in the soft jaw tissue until they are replaced by milk teeth at the age of 5–6 years.

  • The bone apparatus is strengthened.

  • In boys, at 26 weeks of pregnancy, the testicles begin to descend into the scrotum. And after 3–4 weeks they will be completely located in it. And in girls, the formation of the vagina and external genitalia is completed.

What happens in a woman’s body at 26 weeks of pregnancy

You are approaching the finish line - the third trimester. Before you know it, the baby will be in your arms. There is only a third of the way left until the birth. Maternity leave is coming soon and you can plunge headlong into the worries of your upcoming pregnancy.

The fundus of the uterus rises 26 cm from the symphysis pubis, increasingly displacing the internal organs upward. The baby's movements become more and more noticeable, especially when he pushes into the liver area or the lower segment of the uterus. From time to time, these blows even make your stomach tug, but the sudden pain passes very quickly, leaving no trace. The appearance of heaviness in the right hypochondrium may be associated with stagnation of bile or even the formation of stones in the gall bladder. Pregnancy greatly contributes to the development of gallstone disease, especially in those who abuse fatty foods and do not monitor their weight.

At 26 weeks of pregnancy, a woman may experience increased back pain. This is due to the fact that the tummy has grown, and the center of gravity has shifted more forward. To maintain balance, the spine also has to bend more. At the same time, the load on the back muscles increases, and the pain becomes stronger.

At 26 weeks of pregnancy, the expectant mother often feels unpleasant spasms in the calf muscles, especially during sleep or after it. Cramps are most often caused by low levels of potassium and calcium in the body, but very high levels of phosphate. A woman needs to reconsider her diet and replace meat dishes with fish, seafood, and legumes in order to get complete protein. Calcium supplier - dairy products, cottage cheese, cheese.

Discharge that is colorless and odorless during this period of pregnancy is normal. An increase in discharge during this period of pregnancy may be a consequence of the formation of a mucus plug. If the discharge is moderate, light or white in color with a uniform consistency, then there is no need to worry, such discharge is normal.

Belly at 26 weeks pregnant

The belly continues to grow quite quickly. And if a few weeks ago a woman could easily cope with her responsibilities around the house, now it is becoming increasingly difficult to bend over or sit down. Some women have a round belly that can protrude from the sides, while others have the opposite - sharp, small, from the back you can’t see the mother’s position.

There is a popular belief that in the first case, girls are born, and in the second, boys. In fact, the shape of the abdomen depends only on the tone of the muscles of the anterior abdominal wall, the mother’s physique and the structure of her pelvis. Thus, an acute high belly often occurs if the mother has a narrow pelvis, and it does not matter whether she is carrying a boy or a girl.

Video blog - nutrition during pregnancy

During the entire pregnancy, it is necessary to carefully monitor weight gain: every week the mother should gain 300–500 g. Since the appetite in the second trimester is excellent, by the 26th week of pregnancy the weight can already correspond to plus 7–10 kg. Therefore, try to eat only wholesome and healthy foods, without deviating from your prescribed diet.

An increase in the size of the placenta, fetal weight and amniotic fluid volume will cause increased stress on the spine. To reduce the load, purchase shoes with flat soles; this will ease the condition of your feet, relieve calf cramps and help avoid varicose veins.

Fetal movements

The frequency and intensity of movements at 26 weeks of gestation depends on the size of the fetus. The larger the fetus, the less often the expectant mother will feel the baby’s movements; this happens because the baby has begun to take up a lot of space in the uterine space. At this stage, painful sensations in the ribs may appear; this is also associated with an increase in the uterus and the size of the fetus. There is an opinion that increased fetal activity is a sign of hypoxia, this fact has not been proven 100%, but still, do not take unnecessary risks and consult a doctor. If frequent movements occur, calm the baby down with gentle stroking of the tummy and gentle conversation; he is already able to hear perfectly and reacts to sounds.

Doctors record the number of movements at a certain time, this allows them to determine the amount of oxygen supplied to the fetus and its vital activity. If the number of daily movements is less than 10 times, it is worth telling your doctor about this so that he can dispel your doubts.

Good to know

If it seems to the mother that the nature of the fetal movements has changed - they have become more active, with virtually no periods of rest, or, on the contrary, have slowed down greatly, almost disappeared - she should immediately tell her doctor about this in order to establish the reasons for the change in the baby’s routine. It’s better to play it safe every time the expectant mother has concerns about one or another moment of pregnancy, and paying attention to yourself and the baby during this period is never superfluous.

Dream

If your sleep becomes restless, purchase a special pillow for pregnant women. This is a long C-shaped, U-shaped or other shaped cushion that a woman can wrap her arms and legs around while sleeping. The pillow relieves stress from your back muscles and supports your growing belly. This allows the expectant mother not to experience discomfort while sleeping.

Heartburn or constipation may occur in the 26th week of pregnancy as a result of the enlargement of the uterus and the effect of hormones on the digestive system.

  • Watch what you eat, but don't give up the balanced nutrition your body needs.

  • Eat slowly.

  • Try not to eat at night and do not lie down for several hours after eating.

  • Ask your doctor which antacids you can take during pregnancy.

How to prevent constipation?

  • Eat foods rich in fiber.

  • Drink more fluids: at least eight glasses a day.

  • Don't forget about old attachments. Fruits and juices, especially plums, continue to be an effective remedy.

  • Try to eat more often, in small portions.

  • At 26 weeks pregnant, increase your physical activity. An extra 10 minutes of exercise can allow your body to recover.

  • Iron supplements or medications may cause constipation in some cases. Try to take them with prune juice.

Proper nutrition

The nutrition of the expectant mother at 26 weeks of pregnancy is aimed at providing the baby with the necessary amount of vitamins, minerals and, of course, nutrients, and therefore must be complete and correct. First of all, you should limit yourself in consuming foods that are allergens: cocoa, chocolate, honey, milk, eggs, orange and red fruits and berries. The group of forbidden foods includes fried foods, carbonated water, fast food, and smoked foods. These products should be abandoned as soon as pregnancy becomes known.

It is advisable to bake, boil or steam all dishes included in the diet, adding a minimum amount of salt. Everyone knows that salt retains water in the body, causing the development of edema.

Can a pregnant woman eat, for example, chocolate, pastries, cakes or other sweets? Of course you can! Naturally, if you are not allergic to them. But this does not mean that you can eat a whole bar of chocolate. Sweets contain a large amount of simple sugars, which, in addition to satisfying energy needs, cause excess weight gain not only in the mother, but also in the fetus. Children born with high weight become candidates for the development of diabetes and obesity. Is it worth putting the child's health at risk?

But still, you shouldn’t completely deprive yourself of the joys of life, because your mood, in the end, and therefore the well-being of your child, depends on it. Chocolate generally promotes the production of the happiness hormone - serotonin. If you want chocolate, eat a couple of cubes a day, preferably dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate. The hand reaches for the cake - eat half, choosing a less fatty one, for example, with jelly and fruit, but remember that there is no benefit from sweets at all, which means you should not abuse it.

Sex at 26 weeks pregnant

Having sex is allowed (if there are no contraindications), but do not forget to use a condom, because even the conditionally pathogenic flora of your husband, with your reduced immunity, can cause inflammation in the vagina.

Dangers at 26 weeks of pregnancy

The appearance of edema in the legs, arms, anterior abdominal wall, excessive weight gain, and increased blood pressure are symptoms of late toxicosis, a pathology that poses a threat to a woman’s health and worsens the condition of the fetus. Despite its severity, toxicosis does not cause any pain in a woman. The swelling may not be that big, and the pressure may not be so high as to cause headaches and discomfort in the heart. Based on this, women believe that they are completely healthy and do not need any treatment, especially in a hospital. It can be difficult for a doctor to explain to a pregnant woman that late toxicosis in its initial stages is an asymptomatic disease, and the appearance of the first subjective sensations is an indicator of the advanced state of the disease and the particular severity of the woman’s condition.

Bloody discharge from the genital tract of a pregnant woman is always a signal to immediately call an ambulance. Its cause may be abruption of a normally located placenta or placenta previa. Even if your stomach does not hurt, you should not try to get to the antenatal clinic or hospital on your own. Bleeding can become alarming at any time. You should calm down, lie down and wait for the doctor.

The rupture of amniotic fluid is characterized by the appearance of moderate or profuse watery discharge from the genital tract. A woman may not even immediately notice changes in her condition, because other than increased humidity in the area of the external genitalia, sometimes nothing bothers her. If you have the slightest suspicion of premature rupture of amniotic fluid, you should immediately consult a doctor.

At 26 weeks, periodic contractions may appear, which doctors call training or Braxton-Higgs contractions. Such contractions are not very painful and are irregular. In this way, the uterus prepares for childbirth and training contractions do not threaten either the baby or the mother. But if at 26 weeks the uterus begins to contract with particular frequency, accompanied by severe pain and watery discharge, you should urgently call a doctor.

Heaviness in the lower abdomen may be associated with isthmic-cervical insufficiency, characterized by a gradual, premature opening of the cervical canal of the cervix. Loose closure of the cervix creates conditions for infection to penetrate from the vagina into the uterus. Infection of the membranes and excessive pressure on them from the uterus often leads to premature rupture of amniotic fluid and the onset of premature labor. Sometimes the infection reaches the fetus, causing illness. Isthmic-cervical insufficiency is corrected by installing a pessary or applying a circular suture to the cervix.

Mucopurulent, cheesy discharge from the genital tract in a pregnant woman is a sign of an infection in the genital tract. Leucorrhoea is an indication for an in-depth study of the vaginal microflora, microbiological analysis of smears and blood tests. Pathogenic microorganisms can infect the membranes and penetrate the uterus.

Tests at 26 weeks of pregnancy

Now you may have a scheduled consultation with an obstetrician-gynecologist. In addition to regular urine tests, he may prescribe:

  • A glucose test to evaluate the presence of gestational diabetes, a transient type of diabetes that can occur during pregnancy.

  • A test for Rh antibodies, which can be treated during pregnancy (if you are Rh negative).

  • Test for anemia caused by iron deficiency (hemoglobin level in red blood cells in a routine blood test). Anemia should also be treated during pregnancy.

Examinations:

  • Weight measurement.

  • Blood pressure measurement.

  • Measuring the height of the uterine fundus and abdominal circumference.

  • Listening to the fetal heartbeat using an obstetric stethoscope.

The screening ultrasound has already been done at this point. Only women who have not previously been screened or pregnant women who cause concern to the doctor are sent for the study.

When performing a fetal ultrasound at 26 weeks of pregnancy, you may notice changes in the baby's behavior. It will either calm down or, on the contrary, actively move. These changes in behavior are also associated with the fact that the child feels the pressure of the sensor and hears the unfamiliar voice of the doctor, and not at all with the sensation of ultrasound as such.

The size of each baby at the beginning of the third trimester is already individual, and special attention is paid to the development of organs.

On average, the baby’s indicators at week 26 vary within the following parameters: weight from 700 grams to one kilogram, height from 32 to 35 centimeters, head diameter from 62 to 65 mm, chest diameter within 64 mm, tummy diameter up to 67 mm. By the way, at this stage of pregnancy, the list of indicators already indicates the size of the foot, which can reach 5 centimeters. Perhaps the mother will want to get another photo of the baby, at that moment when he is enthusiastically studying his legs, trying to reach his finger.

Many parts of the brain are available for study during fetal ultrasound at 26 weeks of pregnancy. The ventricles of the brain are assessed to exclude hydrocephalus and impaired formation of the cerebellum. The facial parts are better visualized with volumetric reconstruction to exclude facial malformations (“cleft lip”, “cleft palate”, etc.).

Fetometry (fetal size) with fetal ultrasound at 26 weeks of pregnancy is normal

  • BDP (biparietal size) 61–73 mm.

  • FZ (fronto-occipital size) 77–93 mm.

  • OG (fetal head circumference) 224–262 mm.

Normal dimensions of long bones on fetal ultrasound at 26 weeks of pregnancy

  • Femur 45–53 mm.

  • Humerus 41–49 mm.

  • Forearm bones 35–43 mm.

  • Tibia bones 41–49 mm.

When performing an ultrasound, the amount of amniotic fluid is determined, which normally should be within 700 grams. Attention is also paid to the quality of amniotic fluid. If at the beginning of pregnancy the baby’s environment resembled a fairly thick plasma, then by week 26 the waters were already diluted with the baby’s urine and became less thick. At this stage, the quality of amniotic fluid depends largely on the mother’s nutrition, therefore, depending on the tests obtained, the daily diet is adjusted.

What does the baby look like (weight and size of the fetus)

This week the baby's growth already exceeds 35 centimeters. On average, the weight of babies during this period is 700 grams, but sometimes it can reach 900 grams - it all depends on genetics. The baby is actively moving, and you can easily show your loved ones the moment when he pushes with his leg or arm. The baby's face has already completely completed its formation. The baby has eyebrows, eyelashes, and small lips. In other words, your child, who is still not ready to be born, is fully formed: from now on he is exactly the same as he will be when he first meets you.

At 26 weeks of pregnancy, the baby will open its little eyes for the first time. Of course, you won’t be able to see anything special in the mother’s womb, because there is very little interesting there for a growing person. But the baby can easily hear everything. He recognizes his mother's voice, and he also recognizes his father's - provided that daddy talks to him often. He reacts to loud music, to loud conversations and to his mother’s quiet lullaby.

Movements

At this stage, doctors recommend counting the baby's movements. The child should move quite actively, but not too much. Ideally, you should notice one movement within ten minutes. But don’t be upset if your attention is not enough to count every movement of the baby. It is necessary to monitor the baby’s actions for this reason: if the baby does not get enough oxygen, he will actively move, signaling the lack. Try to keep a little eye on how often your baby twitches his legs and arms.

At week 26, another significant event for intrauterine development will occur: the baby’s pituitary gland will begin to independently produce growth hormone. And the brain will finally establish communication with the adrenal glands and other internal organs. This means that other hormones necessary for the little person will begin to be produced.

Determining the sex of the child

If the second planned ultrasound is scheduled for the 26th week of pregnancy, the doctor will easily be able to answer the question about the baby’s gender. Already now the boy’s testicles are descending into the scrotum, and in girls the vagina is beginning to form. It can be difficult to determine the sex of the baby if the baby is not in a very good position.

Screening

In most countries of the world, the second perinatal screening (biochemical blood test from a vein) is carried out between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. In our country, analysis is often prescribed at 21 or even 22 weeks. This is not entirely correct, and here's why. There are countries in which termination of pregnancy is prohibited by law. A screening test is not the end of screening. This is followed by diagnostics, which will also take time. So it turns out that if there is something wrong with the fetus, then conducting a screening test at 21 weeks of pregnancy will delay the diagnosis. This matter can be delayed so much that even for medical reasons it will be impossible to interrupt it - the deadline will be too late. For most countries, the following time frames are relevant:

  • from 15 to 19 weeks - blood test;
  • from 19 to 20 weeks - the second screening ultrasound.

Nausea

There should be no nausea or other signs of toxicosis. Some expectant mothers who are experiencing a difficult pregnancy develop gestosis in the later stages of pregnancy. It is also often called late toxicosis. And all because the symptoms of this dangerous condition are similar to the signs of early toxicosis: morning sickness, vomiting, dizziness and weakness. Your pregnancy is proceeding normally, so there is no question of any acquaintance with gestosis. But heartburn may worsen during this period. Don't rush to take pills trying to relieve the burning sensation in your throat. Try eating a spoonful of honey. It should help.

Every week, both the composition of the amniotic fluid and its quantity changes. The average norm for the period under discussion is 147 millimeters. However, the permissible fluctuations are quite wide. The lower limit of normal is 89 millimeters, and the upper limit is 240 millimeters. Therefore, if the amount of amniotic fluid measured during an ultrasound is far from the average, this is not a reason to be nervous.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

What's happening to your body - sensations

The belly is already very noticeable. You haven't been able to fit into your outfits for a long time, so you've probably updated your wardrobe with pregnancy-appropriate items. Your gait is changing more and more, you increasingly begin to hold your lower back with your hand while standing or walking.

The uterus continues to expand. It has already risen quite high above the navel. Often during this period, mothers experience constipation and leg cramps, but do not be afraid of these conditions. Like many things in our lives, they are temporary. Perhaps due to an increase in blood volume, the doctor will note a decrease in hemoglobin and prescribe a special vitamin complex. And this is also normal, even ordinary.

The breast also continues its preparation for the process of natural feeding, and you must help it with this. Don't forget about hygiene procedures, massages and rubbing with a towel. However, don't go too hard. Remember that intense breast massage can cause the uterus to tone.

At week 26, your activity begins to subside. It is replaced by lethargy and even some drowsiness. But don’t let weakness overcome you. Continue to go to pregnancy workouts and walks in the fresh air. If you have long wanted to go to your favorite performance, do it, because after the birth of your baby you will not have time at all. Normal weight gain during this period should not exceed ten kilograms. And it’s not so much about your figure, but about the baby: if the baby is too large, it will not be easy for him to be born. More information about the health and sensations of a pregnant woman at 26 weeks can be found in our feature article.

Nagging pain in the abdomen

There should be no pain in the lower abdomen at this stage of pregnancy. If you have them, you will need to immediately inform your obstetrician-gynecologist. Don’t be nervous and don’t guess: there can be quite a few reasons for such spasms, and instead of guessing with chamomile, it’s better to trust a knowledgeable specialist who will quickly understand where the legs are coming from.

Back pain

Pain in the lower back, back and ribs is common during the pregnancy period under discussion. You've probably already gotten used to the fact that your back hurts significantly. This is normal, because along with the growing uterus and baby, the center of gravity in your body has shifted. Now the load is distributed completely differently than before, not fairly. It's hard on her back, but she copes. Do not wear heels, so as not to aggravate your situation, and preferably wear a bandage. Believe me, it will make your back much easier. And if you can’t sleep normally due to lower back pain, get a special pillow for pregnant women. It is large, has a moon-shaped neckline and allows you to take the position in which you are comfortable.

Discharge

If you notice discharge on your underwear that is different from the usual translucent or yellowish, you will need to go to the doctor and get tested. Leucorrhoea can become greenish, brown, yellow - with a clear admixture of pus, brown or red (bloody). The doctor will quickly determine the nature of such discharge and decide what to do with it next and how to get rid of it. You don’t have to be nervous at all, but it is very important to follow all medical recommendations related to discharge.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Do's and Don'ts

  • frequent walks in the fresh air;
  • positive thoughts;
  • attending courses for pregnant women;
  • psychological preparation for childbirth;
  • gymnastics for expectant mothers.

The prohibitions are also unchanged, but they are also worth remembering:

  • no alcohol;
  • No Drugs;
  • no nicotine (hookah, by the way, is also strictly prohibited);
  • no uncontrolled use of drugs;
  • no paint products or household chemicals.

If you want to know more about prohibitions and permitted actions, read our material on this topic.

Proper nutrition

By 26 weeks of pregnancy you should have gained about ten kilograms. Starting this week, the extra weight will really stick to you. Therefore, all recommendations regarding organizing your own diet must be followed even more diligently and focused. Your weight gain per week should not exceed four hundred grams.

Check whether your weight is normal now, in accordance with your period. and find out whether there is underweight or overweight. And the result will also show exactly how your weight gain is distributed at week 26.

You can and should consume it often, but the amount of food you consume at a time should not exceed 250 grams.

Do not try to go on a diet, because it can greatly harm your baby. If you want to arrange some kind of fasting days for yourself, consult your doctor about this. He will tell you which products you should give preference to. It is necessary to completely avoid highly allergenic foods (chocolate, strawberries, citrus fruits, exotic vegetables and fruits that do not grow in our country and are therefore unusual for us). Avoid eating fried and spicy foods because they can cause even worse heartburn. In addition, they have few health benefits. Ready to learn more about the basics of nutrition at the gestation period under discussion -.

Vitamins

It is important to take calcium supplements during this week of pregnancy. Sometimes, if the expectant mother has anemia, the doctor prescribes iron tablets. However, a balanced diet that includes healthy foods remains your main vitamin.

The woman is now in the middle of 7 months of pregnancy. If we take into account the fact that an obstetric month is only 4 weeks, then the 26th week of pregnancy is 3 and a half obstetric months. The age of the fetus at this stage is 24 weeks.

What happens at 26 weeks

On average, until this week, weight gain should be from 6 to 10 kg. A little more and you will be able to fully enjoy your pregnancy, as you will go on maternity leave. If you have free time, then be sure to go to, which you can visit with your husband. There they will prepare you for the upcoming birth, tell you a lot of useful information and help you get rid of emotional worries.

The weight is constantly increasing, including the uterus. Because of this, the center of gravity changes, the abdominal muscles relax, the nerves are pinched, all this causes a lot of inconvenience. This week you may experience all the troubles of pregnancy: constipation, hemorrhoids, pain, nausea, etc.

Many women during this period may feel the appearance of “goosebumps” on their body. This phenomenon is absolutely safe and is not associated with any violations.

Possible risks

Late toxicosis is dangerous because it can cause deterioration in the condition of the fetus and also impair its development. Symptoms indicate that the disease is already too advanced. Read more about the dangers of late toxicosis (preeclampsia)

How a woman feels at 26 weeks

Due to changes in the body and body, many pregnant women may not feel well. They complain of pain throughout the body, fatigue and nervousness, but, strangely enough, this is the normal state of a pregnant woman at this stage.

Possible physical sensations

The body continues to change, and the woman feels this not only physically, but also emotionally:

  1. Stomach. This week the belly becomes more rounded, rises and protrudes forward a little. Because of this, white stripes may appear on it, which eventually turn into stretch marks. But you can prevent their appearance by using other anti-stretch marks. In addition, you can use traditional methods, for example, olive oil, which should be regularly rubbed into the stomach.
  2. Uterus. The uterus continues to enlarge and is now located 6 cm from the navel and rises 26 cm above the pubic symphysis. Every day the uterus rises by about 1 cm. Now its length is about 16 cm in width and about 24 cm in height.
  3. Breast. The mammary glands continue to increase in size. The first colostrum may appear from the nipples. At this time, you can begin to prepare your nipples for future feeding; to do this, follow simple procedures, for example, take air baths, wash your breasts with cool water, and wipe your nipples with a hard towel. Just keep in mind that excessive irritation of the nipples can provoke uterine contractions.
  4. Movements. The child's movements become more active every day. To be sure that everything is fine with the baby, you need to count the number of movements. At week 26, the baby makes approximately 250 movements every day, about 10 per hour. At this stage, other people can already feel the movements, for example, if the future dad puts his hand on his beloved’s stomach, he will be able to feel the blows from the leg or arm. The activity of the fetus is individual, for example, one baby can be active and constantly disturb the mother, while other children are calmer. By the way, many mothers notice that in the future, after birth, the child shows his temperament, which was formed in the womb. Read more about baby movements
  5. Painful sensations. One of the causes of pain is the baby’s movements, since there is less and less space left for him every day. If you feel pain under the ribs or lower abdomen, the reason is that the pressure on the internal organs increases due to the growth of the uterus. In addition, due to the action of hormones, joints and ligaments soften, which in turn causes pain. During this period, frequent headaches may appear; to get rid of them, rest more often, ventilate the room and walk in the fresh air. Pain in the back and lower back occurs due to a shift in the center of gravity and increased load.
  6. Spasms. Many women may complain that they experience spasms in their leg muscles from time to time. Basically, they arise due to a large amount of phosphorus in the body or, conversely, due to an insufficient amount of calcium. Another reason that affects the appearance of cramps is severe fatigue or strong pressure of the uterus on certain nerves. To get rid of them, massage or apply something cool to your feet.
  7. Discharge. Discharge that has a uniform consistency and is beige or milky in color, but odorless, is considered normal. If you see that the discharge has changed in consistency and has become cheesy and at the same time emitting an unpleasant odor, then immediately consult a doctor, as this indicates the presence of an infection that must be urgently gotten rid of so that during childbirth the infection does not pass on to the baby. Bloody discharge may indicate placental abruption, so consult a doctor immediately to save the life of the child and yourself. Watery discharge may indicate the onset of labor, so call an ambulance. Possible emotional experiences

It's not just your physical condition that changes women, and also her psychological. Most representatives of the fairer sex in this state experience frequent mood swings. The reason for this is quite simple - changes in hormonal levels.

It is almost impossible to control this, so the only advice is to calmly explain your condition to your spouse and loved ones.

Try to get rid of possible irritants and surround yourself only with positive emotions.

Some pregnant women women may complain of absent-mindedness, but this is also explained by hormones. In this case, you can make some reminders for yourself, write notes, etc.

Almost every expectant mother feels fear of the upcoming birth. This is mainly due to the unknown. To get rid of this, read the literature or talk to your doctor. This way, you can get answers to all your questions and get rid of the fear of the unknown.

Another problem that may arise during this period is fatigue from the state of pregnancy. In this case, try to distract yourself and find the positive aspects of your pregnancy.

Reviews from women about week 26

Since each woman is individual, pregnancy proceeds in a special way and the feelings they experience are different and unique:

Catherine: “It’s already week 26 and we’re approaching the main event. One thing I know is that my child is either too shy or disgusted, since we still don’t know who we have there. But despite this, I go through millions of names for my child every day.”

Olga: “Lately I have been suffering from a sharp pain on the right side under the rib. This occurs after I have eaten and sat down, when I walk normally, but as soon as I sit down, it immediately hurts. Tomorrow, I’ll probably go to the doctor to find out what the reason is and whether there is any danger.”

Sarah: “My son is already showing his character, for example, when I argue or quarrel with my husband, he actively beats me from the inside to stand up for his daddy. My husband can’t get enough of this and it seems to me that he sometimes quarrels with me on purpose. This week I developed severe heartburn, and in the evenings I still suffer from toxicosis. As for my mood, everything is fine, the positivity does not leave me.”

Irina: “It’s already the middle of the 26th week. Today I went to see a doctor. He said that the little one was sitting with her butt down and had already gained more than a kilogram. Because he sits like that, as soon as I bend over, I immediately get a kick. The doctor reassured me and said that everything was fine, nothing critical, and the weight would stabilize, so I was completely calm.”

Valentina: “I feel very tired due to the fact that I don’t sleep well, sometimes I can toss and turn all night, but still cannot sleep a wink. My stomach hurts, my baby kicks, my head hurts, and a million other reasons. By the way, we chose a name, decided to call our son Harry, although everyone criticizes, this is our son, and it’s up to us to decide.”

Valeria: “My baby's movements have become more deliberate and less erratic this week. I gained 8 kg, which by the way is noticeable. What frightens me is that my son lies across his stomach and only spins around his own axis, I worry that he will not remain in a transverse presentation. The name had also already been chosen, and we decided that we would have Deniska-radish.”

Nina: “My daughter has somehow calmed down this week, only sometimes she kicks and hiccups. The doctor said that everything is fine and most likely it’s a reaction to the weather; it’s been raining for a week now. I gained 8 kg and I think that this is quite normal; for doctors, any weight is too much. Sometimes it seems to me that my doctor’s main task is to scare me and ruin my mood.”

Faith: “It’s already week 26, although only recently I looked at the test, which showed two sticks. My daughter is quite active, but at the same time obedient; when I ask her to calm down, she calms down. As for weight, I gained 10 kg, they told me to stop eating sweets, but I can’t give them up, it’s my drug.”

Sofia: “I gained 5 kg because I carefully monitor my diet, lead an active lifestyle and do yoga. The doctor praises me and says that we are developing correctly and everything will be fine. I don’t feel much pain, only when the baby fights hard.”

Liana: “I bought myself a bandage and a bunch of creams for stretch marks, since my friend’s whole belly was painted after pregnancy. I go to the pool 3 times a week, the baby really likes it, he calms down and enjoys it.”

Fetal development at 26 weeks of gestation

At this stage, the child’s weight is about 900 g and his height is approximately 35 cm. The baby sleeps most of the time, but no more than 18 hours.

Due to the fact that the main amount of fat is deposited in the child at the end of pregnancy, now he looks quite weak and thin.

The baby already clearly reacts to light, and if you shine a bright light on the belly, the baby’s heartbeat increases and he begins to move actively. All layers of the eyeball are now the same as at the time of birth.

All other organs of perception continue to improve. Due to the fact that taste buds have already formed on the tongue, the child distinguishes tastes and can already determine sweet and bitter. He already clearly hears not only internal, but also external sounds. You can play classical music and nature sounds to help him relax and calm down.

Nerve connections between internal organs and the brain are improved. The most important thing is that the brain establishes a connection with the adrenal cortex. Thanks to this, a hormone will be produced that is necessary for the child’s adaptation after birth.

In addition, the baby already produces growth hormone on its own. Through them, a signal will be given after birth for the first breath. The arms and legs become more rounded; small folds.

Continue to develop 20 tooth buds- these are the future milk teeth, and under them the rudiments of permanent teeth are formed. The face acquires more defined and individual features: the eyebrows can be clearly seen, the nose appears more clearly, the ears become larger, and the neck elongates.

As for blood circulation, it does not yet circulate in a large and small circle; this will happen only after birth. Now blood circulation is carried out through the placenta. Blood is enriched with oxygen and all nutrients, and then enters the child’s body through the umbilical cord.

Lungs take their correct and final form and take their rightful place between the heart, liver and diaphragm. The baby constantly makes breathing movements, but the lung tissue does not expand. At such moments, the child swallows amniotic fluid. There is nothing wrong with this, except that sometimes hiccups may occur and you may feel rhythmic twitching.

Many children Arrhythmia may occur during this period, which is expressed by a violation of the heartbeat rhythm. The reason is that the organ is constantly developing and growing. When the formation of the heart is completed, the arrhythmia will pass.

If you decide to go on vacation, then you should consider the following factors:

  1. If you decide to travel by plane, then be aware that pressure changes can cause fetal hypoxia. Therefore, be sure to consult your doctor before choosing this method of transportation.
  2. You should not go to countries with a radically different climate, as it is difficult not only for your body, but also for the child.
  3. To travel to some countries, you need to get special vaccinations, which require a lot of effort, and this is absolutely useless during pregnancy.
