A very colorful and elegant mask will not leave anyone indifferent, especially during a meeting. To make it, prepare:

  • artificial flowers
  • sequins
  • tape

Step-by-step instructions for creating a felt mask

Draw the outlines of the mask on a piece of felt and cut it out. To make holes for the eyes, try on the mask and mark with chalk the places where you need to cut out the fabric. Remove several petals from the prepared artificial flowers and attach them to the mask with glue. Cover the eye holes with sequins. To ensure that the mask can be worn, sew a ribbon to the inside of the product.

This mask will come in handy not only for the New Year, but also for Halloween!

A mysterious and spectacular accessory for a mysterious stranger. It can be made from fabric and lace. To work you will need:

  • mask template
  • beautiful fabric
  • lining fabric
  • lace
  • thread and needle
  • scissors
  • pins
  • ribbon
  • decorations

Preparing materials and creating a cardboard base
Step-by-step instructions for making a fabric mask

Make a mask template from cardboard. Draw the outline of the pattern onto the main and lining fabric. Cut out the workpiece. On the inside of the product, use pins to secure the lace on the sides, making small folds. Sew the lace to the mask with threads and cut off the excess parts. Attach the ribbon for the ties to the back of the workpiece. Using a sewing machine, sew the main fabric to the lining fabric along the contour. Don't forget the eye holes. They also need to be trimmed. Decorate the mask to your taste.

Animal masks

These masks are the easiest to make and require almost no financial costs. Materials:

  • A4 sheet of paper
  • crayons, paints, pencils
  • scissors
  • hole puncher
  • scotch
  • rubber

Print the template you like on an A4 sheet. To prevent the mask from being too soft, stick the printout onto cardboard. If the drawing is printed on a black and white printer, color it with your children. Use sharp scissors to cut out the mask. There are small circles on the sides - these are the places where you need to punch holes for the elastic using a hole punch. Paper masks often tear at these points - glue the holes with tape. Tie on the elastic and adjust the length so that the mask fits snugly, but not tightly, on your face.

Templates for a New Year's photo shoot

Simple cardboard cutouts will liven up any holiday party!

- this is the time when even the most mature and experienced people dream that their lives will be filled with bright events, wonderful transformations and magic. All this will be embodied for you by the New Year's carnival - a party during which anyone can try on a mask and become a completely different, enigmatic and mysterious person, be in the image of a fairy-tale hero or cartoon character, dance and have fun, throwing away any worries for a while.

Of course, any costume party requires a themed outfit. Fans of masquerades already a few months before the New Year begin calling rental agencies and going to salons offering a variety of costumes and accessories. However, it is not always possible to find an outfit to your liking - sometimes the size is far from ideal, sometimes the quality is poor, sometimes the price turns out to be prohibitively high. It’s unlikely that anyone would want to spend a lot of money to show off at a ball for a couple of hours.

A homemade mask will make you stand out from the crowd of guests!

But if you didn’t have time to rent, sew or buy, this doesn’t mean you should miss the New Year’s holiday! In this case, various masks come to the rescue - a girl can complement a black tight-fitting dress with a cat mask, and a man, wearing a black Venetian mask with a tuxedo, will try on the image of a mysterious stranger.

It is worth saying that the most original masks are not purchased plastic products, but unusual carnival accessories made with your own hands. Surely many now thought that the last time they picked up cardboard and scissors was when they did it - which means they are unlikely to cope with this task. But don't worry about it!

Devote literally a couple of hours to creativity - and you will be firmly confident that you will not meet anyone at the holiday with a similar mask. Well, in order to simplify your task, we have collected the simplest, most understandable and original master classes on making carnival accessories!

Idea No. 1: Openwork mask

An example of an openwork mask (detailed diagrams are presented at the end of the article)

An exquisite openwork mask will turn yours into a carnival outfit! The most mysterious variation of the mask is a product made of black lace - it will add mystical notes to the image of its owner. But you can use materials of a different color in your work if you want the festive look to be made strictly in the color of the dress, or strive for bright contrasting tones. To make a mask you will need:

  • a piece of tulle;
  • sharp scissors;
  • organza or velvet ribbon;
  • black paint for dyeing fabric (in a tube);
  • cling film;
  • thick paper;
  • scotch;
  • glue that holds the fabric well.

Making a mask

Step-by-step instructions for creating an openwork mask
  • Step 1. Print the selected version of the openwork half mask on a sheet of paper or draw it yourself.
  • Step 2: Place the paper on a hard surface and cover with a layer of cling film, carefully smoothing out any uneven surfaces. To prevent the film from moving while working, attach it to the table with pieces of tape.
  • Step 3. Take a piece of tulle and cut a piece from it that will completely cover the half mask template. A piece of fabric about 25-26 centimeters long and 13-14 centimeters wide should be enough for you.
  • Step 4. Using a tube of black paint, begin tracing the pattern of the selected mask. Make sure all the details and curls are neatly painted.
  • Step 5. Let the paint dry thoroughly and remove the tulle layer from the template covered with cling film.
  • Step 6. Using sharp nail scissors, cut out the outline of the mask, and then make holes for the eyes.
  • Step 7. Measure the circumference of your head and cut two pieces of black ribbon made of organza, velvet or satin, adding 10-15 centimeters to them to tie the half mask with a beautiful bow.
  • Step 8. Glue the ties to the sides of the half mask and let the product dry thoroughly.

Note: at the end of the article you will find various options for openwork masks, any of which is suitable for celebrating the New Year!

Idea #2: Minimalist mask

A laconic cardboard mask decorated with rhinestones and feathers

A classic half mask made of cardboard is an option for those who are not too inclined to be creative. The master class we offer is so simple that even a child can handle it. By the way, such a half mask is also suitable for a New Year’s ball at school or kindergarten, so parents can take the idea into account. For work you will need the following materials:

  • sheets of colored double-sided cardboard;
  • sharp scissors;
  • paper;
  • pencil;
  • sequins, colored feathers, crystals;
  • long wooden stick;
  • dye;
  • ribbon made of velvet, satin or organza;
  • glue gun (regular glue can also be used).

Making a mask

Step-by-step instructions for making a cardboard mask
  • Step 1. Find a template of a suitable mask on the Internet and print it on a sheet of paper. Cut out the pattern of the future product and place it on a sheet of colored cardboard. Trace the pattern with a simple pencil and cut out the base for the mask using sharp scissors;
  • Step 2. Place crystals, feathers, beads, sequins and other decorative elements on the table. Think over a design that will decorate your mask. Assemble the pattern on a cardboard base.
  • Step 3. Trying not to disturb the design, take the selected elements and glue them to the designated places.
  • Step 4. Take a stick, paint it to match the mask, wait until the paint dries. You can also glue the stick with a glue gun and wind a ribbon of organza or velvet in a spiral.
  • Step 5. Cut a couple of rectangles from a piece of cardboard. Place the stick on one of the inner sides of the mask and attach by gluing pieces of cardboard on top. Let the product dry and shine at the carnival as a mysterious stranger.

Idea #3: Cat mask

The rounded shape of the feathers turns the kitty into a panther!

A lace cat mask is an excellent option for girls who want to look mysterious and unusual, but for one reason or another cannot purchase a graceful predator costume. This mask looks great with anyone, adding a mystical twist to its owner. The process of making a mask is so simple that even those who do not have sewing or cutting skills can handle it. Before you start making a mask, you need to buy or find at home:

  • a piece of black lace guipure;
  • sharp scissors;
  • 20-30 centimeters of black organza or velvet ribbon;
  • two large crystals;
  • thread and needle;
  • 4-6 small feathers;
  • glue that holds the fabric well, or a glue gun.

Making a mask

Step-by-step instructions for making a feather mask
  • Step 1. Take a piece of lace guipure. Measure the length necessary for the future mask to fit comfortably on your face (15-18 centimeters). Cut a piece, being careful to keep the lace pattern intact. Prepare two identical parts (these are the upper and lower halves of the future mask).
  • Step 2. Cut semi-ovals on the inner parts of the guipure, trying to make sure that the holes match when connecting the upper and lower parts of the mask. Don't try to cut out as much fabric as possible at once. First, try on the workpiece, holding the pieces of guipure with your hands, and then, if necessary, deepen the cuts. Leave the middle, which will be at the level of the bridge of the nose, untouched.
  • Step 3. Connect the top and bottom parts of the mask. Glue the temples and the bridge of the nose on the inside of the product with glue or paste from a hot glue gun. Let the mask dry.
  • Step 4. Trim the excess lace from the bottom of the mask so that it ends at the highest point of your cheekbone. Otherwise, you will find it uncomfortable to wear your product throughout the evening.
  • Step 5. Connect 2-3 feathers into a bun, folding them like a fan. Make two identical elements. Attach rhinestones or crystals to the front of the feathers. Glue feathers to the sides of the mask to imitate cat ears. If the feathers are not pointed, but slightly rounded, you will get a panther mask. By experimenting with the shape, you can also make a bird mask, such as an owl mask.
  • Step 6. Measure your head circumference. Cut two pieces of organza or velvet ribbon, adding about 10 centimeters to the measurement to tie the half mask with a beautiful bow.
  • Step 7. Sew ribbon ties on the inside approximately where the temple is located.

Idea #4: Mask with paper buds

Try making a New Year's mask from corrugated colored paper

The rich purple mask will become the subject of close attention of those around you, because the delicate buds covering it make this carnival accessory a real piece of art. If you wish, you can use a different shade of paper that will better match the tone of your dress. The master class assumes the following items:

  • a base mask made from papier-mâché, a cardboard mask, or a regular plastic half-mask that you can buy at a craft store;
  • thin corrugated paper;
  • glue;
  • glue gun;
  • scissors;
  • feathers painted to match the paper;
  • satin ribbons.

Making a mask

Step-by-step instructions for making a mask from buds
  • Step 1. Unfold a sheet of corrugated paper, mark it into equal stripes 7-8 centimeters wide. The length of each strip should be 30-35 centimeters. Prepare 25-30 strips for work and fold them in half lengthwise.
  • Step 2. Roll the paper strips as shown in the photo. While rolling the bud, gradually turn the paper strip 180 0. After the next turn, glue the bud in one or two places so that it holds its shape better.
  • Step 3. Take a mask. Apply a little paste from a glue gun to its surface and glue the pink buds, trying to fill the base as tightly as possible.
  • Step 4: Attach a bunch of fluffy feathers to one side of the mask to create a plume.
  • Step 5. Measure the circumference of your head, cut two pieces of braid or ribbon, adding 6-8 centimeters to the measurements. Attach the tape to the mask and let the product dry.

Idea #5: Mosaic mask made from broken toys

A handmade mosaic mask will look no worse than a store-bought one!

Every time we take out boxes from cabinets and mezzanines, we have to sort through the Christmas tree decorations and separate the broken ones from the whole ones. Of course, every broken ball is a reason for frustration. Many of the decorations are dear to us as memories of holidays spent with our family. But you can give broken toys a second chance by decorating a carnival mask with mirror mosaics. To make such an accessory, you will need:

  • a plastic mask from the store or a mask made from papier-mâché;
  • several glass balls of matching shades;
  • thick fabric or towel;
  • feathers, rhinestones;
  • hammer;
  • pliers;
  • braid;
  • glue gun.

Making a mask

  • Step 1. Remove the fasteners from the broken balls.
  • Step 2. Wrap the toys in thick cloth and tap with a hammer, breaking the balls into small fragments.
  • Step 3. Unroll the fasteners with pliers, place them on a hard surface and, if necessary, tap a little with a hammer until you get flat parts.
  • Step 4. Glue the resulting elements onto the top of the mask and along the sides. Place a sparkling crystal or sequins in the middle of each circle.
  • Step 5. Unwrap the towel with the fragments and apply a little glue gun to the mask. Glue the pieces of glass, leaving small gaps (this will make the pattern more like a mosaic pattern).
  • Step 6. Decorate one of the side parts of the mask with a fluffy feather.
  • Step 7. Measure the circumference of your head, cut two pieces of braid or ribbon, adding 6-8 centimeters to the measurements. Attach the tape to the mask and let the product dry.

Idea #6: Papier-mâché mask

A carefully primed and painted papier-mâché mask, decorated with crystals or sequins, will be indistinguishable from a store-bought one!

Plastic masks that can be bought in stores do not always satisfy us with their quality or convenience, because each face has its own anatomical features. We invite you to master making papier-mâché masks! Firstly, such masks can be made individually for each family member - from grandmother to small child. And secondly, you can always prepare for an unexpected costume party if you suddenly don’t find a ready-made plastic base for making a mask in the store.

By the way, papier-mâché masks are superior to regular cardboard masks. Well, the manufacturing process itself is so simple that you can safely connect the smallest members of the family to it. Before you start making a mask, make sure you have the following list of items at home:

  • Vaseline (or any fatty glycerin cream);
  • toilet paper (can be replaced with napkins)
  • newspaper sheets;
  • scissors;
  • Wheat flour;
  • water;
  • tassels;
  • paints;
  • PVA glue.

Making a mask

  • Step 1. Prepare the paste. To do this, pour a glass of water into a saucepan, place it on the fire and boil. Measure out a glass of flour, add 3-4 tablespoons of cold water to it, mixing the ingredients thoroughly. Place the mixture in boiling water, stir and let cool.
  • Step 2. Add 3-4 spoons of PVA glue to the mixture.
  • Step 3. Cut newspaper sheets and toilet paper (napkins) into small pieces, or simply tear them by hand.
  • Step 4. Thoroughly lubricate the face of the model to make a mask with a layer of Vaseline or glycerin cream.
  • Step 5: Fill the bowl with water. Dampen a piece of newspaper and stick it on your nose, cheeks, forehead, chin. Continue manipulations until the entire face is covered with a layer of wet pieces of newspaper. Try to overlap the pieces so that there are no gaps.
  • Step 6. Dip a piece of newspaper into the paste mixture, glue it on top of the first layer and continue until the next layer of mask is ready.
  • Step 7. Continue alternating layers of napkins and newspapers coated with paste. In total, you need to make from 5 to 7 of them. Calculate so that the last layer consists of chopped napkins. Dry the resulting mask a little with a hairdryer.
  • Step 8. Carefully remove the workpiece from the model’s face, place it close to a radiator or heating device so that it dries and hardens.
  • Step 9: Use sharp scissors to cut off any protruding edges or uneven pieces. Make slits for the ribbons.
  • Step 10. Paint the mask in the chosen color and decorate it to your liking.

Paper mask templates for children

Poems and books are dedicated to masks; they are the personification of theater; you can hide behind them and become someone else for a while. New Year's masquerade is an integral element of a wonderful winter holiday, when you especially want to believe in miracles.

In anticipation of the holiday, many refuse the idea of buying a standard mask in a store, wanting to create their own image - and mask - themselves. When starting creativity, it is important to know not only how to make a New Year’s mask with your own hands, but also what to use.

Mysterious hero

The fabric velvet half mask is one of the most famous theatrical and carnival attributes. Without it, many characters and movie heroes would not be so attractive to the viewer, and some images would not have been born at all.

To become the owner of such an accessory, you will need:

  • paper template,
  • pieces of fabric 25x12 cm (velvet, non-woven fabric, lining fabric),
  • threads,
  • curly fabric scissors,
  • narrow silk ribbon or velvet edging,
  • needle.

First, you should cut out the fabric base using a paper pattern.

  1. Cut the interlining so that the workpiece is 2 mm smaller than the template, leave a 1 cm allowance for the silk piece, and cut out the velvet 1:1 with the template using curly scissors.
  2. Assemble a “sandwich” with interlining in the middle and secure with a basting stitch.
  3. If the mask is planned to have a flirty short piping frill along the outer edge, then you need to gather the ribbon with thread, insert the sewing edge between the velvet and the seal, fold the silk lining allowance inward and sew all the layers together.
  4. If the mask is for men, then after assembling the layers “on a thread”, you need to process the outer edge using a velvet edging.
  5. The eye holes of both half masks (male and female) are also trimmed with piping.

All that remains is to sew on the ties.

Mask on a teapot

Before you worry about how to make a New Year's mask at home from papier-mâché or plaster, you need to get a blank (or template).

Craft stores sometimes sell “heads” for sewing hats, and from manufacturers of display equipment you can purchase blanks used in the wigs and hats trade. But this only makes sense if mask making is a long-term hobby. In all other cases, people's ingenuity comes to the rescue:

  • someone uses a balloon or ball with a glued plasticine “nose”;
  • someone uses a kettle for boiling water as a form (not to be confused with a teapot - it is too small), turned upside down;
  • Some people prefer the most ancient method of forming a mask - directly on themselves.

The point is to create an individual (similar to a specific person) mask according to the Venetian “recipe”.

You need to generously grease your face with Vaseline and lay out a papier-mâché template on it, but soften the first couple of layers of paper in water, not in PVA glue (otherwise the mask will stick “tight”). Paper towels or napkins are best for making these layers, but you can also use regular, not very thick newspaper. From a safety point of view (to protect your eyes), it is better to make the initial layers continuous.

  1. The remaining layers, pieces of newspaper 5x5 cm, are “bathed” in the adhesive mass and evenly overlap each other, forming a relief (but not more than 100 layers). There is no need to seal the eye holes at this stage.
  2. The template should be allowed to dry before being removed from the face, and then gently dried. When the workpiece is dry, it needs to be “helped to see the light” by removing excess paper using a blade or scissors.
  3. Next, the product is covered with a thin layer of finishing putty, and after drying it is sanded with fine sandpaper.
  4. The result is secured with a primer.
  5. All that remains is to dry, paint and decorate.

To top it off, the finished element of the carnival costume can be coated with water-based disperse varnish (it does not smell and dries quickly).

The most ancient recipe

But how to make a New Year's mask from plaster, having a papier-mâché template? There is no need to make such a base thick - ten layers is enough. You need gypsum fabric or medical-grade gypsum powder, since art and construction mixtures contain additives that cause allergic reactions.

  1. The gypsum fabric is moistened with water and laid out on the template. All holes, except for mounting ones, must be formed immediately.
  2. If there is no special fabric, but there is dry plaster, then it should be diluted with water until the thickness of liquid pancake dough. You will also need bandages, or better yet, inexpensive wet wipes. In all other respects, this technology completely repeats the process of creating a papier-mâché mask.
  3. After the plaster has dried (or at any other stage before priming the product), you need to drill mounting holes for the ties.

Is it possible to make a mask from plaster alone? It is possible, but it will be too fragile, and the fabric makes the structure stronger.

Comes from childhood

The easiest half mask to make is made from thick paper or cardboard. You can draw the template yourself or download it from the Internet, transfer it to your work surface (so as not to leave extra pencil marks on the future product) and cut it out. You can decorate with anything - it depends on the final idea and image.

Half masks with ribbon trim look advantageous:

  1. Using a basting stitch along one edge, the tape is slightly gathered and glued on this side to the workpiece.
  2. After drying, the threads can be removed.

How to make a New Year's mask out of paper with an imitation nose? In addition to the base template, you need to cut out a triangle from paper according to the size of the nose with top and side “overhangs” (fastening reserves) of 0.5 cm, and with their help glue the “nose” to the mask from the inside.

Paper and cardboard are not very tear-resistant materials, so to prevent the holes for the ties from breaking through at the very beginning of the carnival, a fabric-based adhesive plaster is glued to the inside. And only after that the holes are made.

Coquettishly mysterious

Lace translucent masks look mysterious and elegant. How to make a New Year's mask on a stick from lace fabric so that the material does not sag?

To create such a carnival accessory you will need thick wire (or an old aluminum clothes hanger), a 12x50 cm lace ribbon, a paper template, wire cutters and a needle and thread.

  1. Three frames are made from wire: for the base and two for forming the eye holes.
  2. The lace is folded in half and the outline of the template is transferred to it. It is necessary to leave a fabric allowance of 1 cm along the entire edge. You need to trim the pattern along the edge of the allowance.
  3. The parts must be sewn from the inside out and only on the three outer sides, without touching the holes for the eyes.
  4. Having turned the product right side out, you should place the frame elements in it and sew up the unfinished section.
  5. To secure the remaining frames, they should be sheathed over the edge with an allowance of one of the layers of fabric.

The allowance of the second piece is simply folded inward and fixed.

There are many ways and techniques for making masks. Their durability depends on the material. But regardless of whether it should catch the eye for one evening or it will be a permanent image, you need to think about preparing the mask and take care of it in advance.

Do you know what's the coolest thing about New Year's Eve? His extraordinary magical aura. It just so happens that people believe that this is a time of miracles! They are waiting for them, sincerely believing in the possibility of the most unexpected and wonderful events. And in order to attract this wonderful energy to themselves, they themselves become naughty.

How can you bring magic into the mundanity of a gray day? This was invented a long time ago and is still used today. For this purpose they began to make masks. They allow you to change on this magical night, to turn into another person or creature.

New Year's masks attract both children and adults. This does not mean that people of all ages are hiding from reality. They simply fulfill the dream of being someone else, of becoming mysterious and beautiful (or terrible, depending on what you like). After all, together with another mask, you can try on a different character, line of behavior, destiny. And there, you stroke, life will begin to take turns and everything for the better.

Make or buy?

The main thing here is the goal. Why do you need a carnival mask? What do you want to get by wearing it? If you scare your friends, then you should go to a specialized store. There's just so much there! Any Dracula can be impersonated. If a child wants to be a fox or a bear cub, then you can go shopping, or cut out a cardboard face yourself.

Those who want to add mystery to themselves, and even unleash their creative potential, can make a real carnival mask with their own hands. It's not difficult and interesting. Moreover, the product created by yourself will be exclusive. After all, it can be made ideally suited to both the New Year’s outfit and the occasion.

Master class on making a carnival mask

What you will need:

  • play dough (also called modeling dough);
  • scissors, paper;
  • pattern (you can find them at the end of the article);
  • any plastic shape in the shape of a face;
  • acrylic paints;
  • sparkles, beads, feathers, rhinestones for decoration.

First you need to make a template out of paper. Then place it on the thinly rolled out modeling mixture. Often, it is difficult to find a white mass, but it doesn’t matter, you can use a colored one. You can roll it out with a regular rolling pin. The thickness of the layer should be 3-4 mm.

Then, using a sharp penknife, we cut the layer according to the template.

We put what we got onto the mold and wait for it to dry completely, usually 12-24 hours depending on the temperature. Do not dry the product near the battery - it may become deformed.

Don't forget to make holes for the rope.

After the New Year's mask has dried, you can paint it with acrylic paints.

Decorate with a pattern made from modeling clay, glue on crystals and rhinestones.

It can be decorated with feathers on top.

The New Year's carnival mask is ready! Below you will find photos and patterns of children's and adult models. Happy New Year!

Making carnival masks with your own hands is very simple: all you need is a stencil, a printer and some cardboard. Today we will tell you more about this. In this article you will find a large selection of holiday masks for every taste. You can easily adapt all these stencils for any holiday.

Of course, the most popular masks are New Year's masks. We have selected several ready-made templates that can be easily used. So you can easily choose, for example, a look for the New Year and complement your holiday outfit. There are also a couple of options for children - for school or kindergarten, as well as for a home party, they are perfect.

Some of the carnival masks are already made in color. If you wish, you can simply print the stencils on a printer and connect them to cardboard. If your printer is not color or you like the black and white mask template, use watercolors, gouache or markers. Also, any mask can be filled with velvet paper, covered with fabric, embroidered with threads and decorated with other materials.

To make your own mask for the New Year or any other holiday, prepare a stencil, cardboard, decor and an elastic band (you can take ribbons or a skewer). We print the image we like or transfer it to paper, based on the drawing. All mask sizes in the selected images are standard. If you need a stencil for a children's mask, simply drag the picture into the graphics editor and reduce it to the desired size (you can then fill it with color or add something else).

A similar blank needs to be drawn on cardboard (we do this using a stencil cut out of paper). Glue ribbons or elastic to the mask. You can insert the stick from the side if you want to keep it near your eyes. Complete the accessory with dry glitter, feathers or fluff, New Year's tinsel or something else.
